Seeds, pods, pennies and pie

Yay, some money in the food jar!!
Today was busy busy!!
Time for some more brassica's!

This is my very messy greenhouse workbench! And a seed tray (it makes modules) I think I seeded 4 today, each seed dropped individually into the little holes!!

And these are the trays I took out of the greenhouse to harden off :) Lettuces and cabbagey things! I forgot to put labels on them...so its potluck! And a tray of flowers :)

The little salad pots are ready to eat, well the first one is! I think I'll save them for next week. I'll have to do another mealplan as my four weeks finishes on friday!

I tidied up another piece of garden. I have random bits of garden all over the place. Mainly where things won't get run over! This is perpetual spinach and wildflower garden! With added chives :)

And the ceramic sink that was too huge for my tiny kitchen!! Looks better anyway, and a little bit of beauty goes a long way!

Filled 84 little pots with soil ready for tomorrow. Its time for some summer squash :)

Used the empty soil bag, as its black inside, to heat the soil up a bit :) Waste not want not!!
Tea tonight was lasagne with the last bolognaise sauce I froze...

(Don't ask the date on the lasagne sheets!!)
With, and this was mommys fault, spirals!!

I forgot I got this doohickey when I bought my mandolin!

Hahahha groovy potato!!

Ex chinese tray!! Brushed with oil, sprinkled with season all, in the oven the same time as the lasagne!

One potato, two potatoes..three potatoes!!!

The boys loved them, but I'd have liked them deep fried so they went crispier! That will be an experiment for another day!! But they are definitely GROOVY!!

Pods!! OH put me in a couple of cup hooks and hooked them on for me when I was gossiping with mommy:D I can see them from my kitchen window and they make me smile alot!!
And there was rhubarb pie too as the oven was on...but I'll put that on another page as I gotta include the recipe for mommy!!!
My hands now feel like sandpaper :)

Running low

Do you see that? A space!!! I could actually fit things in the freezer! Apart from one thing...
Money earnt - zero, money spent - 26.89!!!
the total I have left in the money pot is now £1.36!!
I'll have to check my little stall tomorrow to see if I'll earn enough to finish the month!!
Today we planted another 10 rows of potatoes! Thats 54 in total...and then it rained heavily and we decided to leave the last bit of land to put leeks on!
Whilst waiting for the thinrd person to be ready I 'found' strawberry runners. I was sure there must be some from dads 2 plants he had last year and lo and behold... I have found 22 so far!!
So, as I found 6 old milk bottles...

6 strawberry pods ready to be hung :) And the rest?
The other 16 found there way into the tidied rhubarb patch as there is no other garden for them to go into!

Much tidier than before, and weeded too! Which made me go weed other bits of garden too!
sausage and chips for tea, as I'd used up alot of energy today!! And I really fancy pie, but haven't made one!
And why was my shopping so much? They had condensed milk in aldi!!! It was 89p and I shelf filled and bought 10!!! I just can't cope with spaces! And I looked at the tortillas and thought 85p, thats alot for flour and lard and wouldn't buy any! My brain works in funny ways :)
Well, I'm all tired out so it must be bathtime!!!

I'm only 21 in fairy years

Cat village!!! We went to the cat village on my birthday..well we went to a toy fair for the men that happens to be at an animal sanctuary!! So we looked at huge rabbits, lots of kitties, and some rats!
And today cost me nothing:D
I had my birthday egg and cress sandwiches for lunch! And for tea...ultimitely unhealthy..

Chip butty with added chips! And a BBQ sauce from burger king the other week!
At the toy fair we played wheres wally looking for OH...

Took us quite a while to find him, DS said we should buy him a proper wally hat to wear...there he is! Found him!

DS and I got a little bored as you can tell! But it keeps OH happy:)
I got one proper pressie to open...joy of being old...

And yes, we watched the first one already!! I'm still scared of the robots! And with my birthday money I bought myself some prints today...

Now thats what I call red riding hood! I like comics (geek) for the artwork :) so this is my treat just for me!
And.. earnt - zero, spent - zero. On food anyway!
Now after all that excitement I'm all tired out...looks like bath and bed! And back to potato planting tomorrow!

Happy Rebirth :)

Eggs, rabbits, rebirth. Anyway, happy rebirth anyway! And today I was....sleepy!!
I overslept...till gone nine!! After lunch my eyes started watering, I started yawning, and I had an afternoon nap for two hours!! I think its catching up on me!!

I have a question...and would be grateful of comments on this one.
We use paper kitchen towels...

 As I suppose alot of us do. OH uses them lot more than me. he seems to be adverse to damp cloths!
Thing is these little rolls are nearly 50p a roll. For cleaning up in the kitchen I use a wet dishcloth and then a dry old teatowel. Here's the question.. what could you use instead to drain fried goods on? What did people use before paper kitchen towels? I can remember having it in the kitchen when I was little. So what came before?
I did do something today, just not alot!! I did a little on my collage...or aplique if you're posh...

Half of it! I know its untidy, and theres still alot to do!

I have a window where its gonna go! I may finish it one day!! And its a good use for all the silly bits and bobs I refuse to throw away!
And I had a play to copy this brilliant idea which acually came from here:)

Milk pods for vertical growing..aint they clever people!! I was thinking it will keep the sluggies away too if I'm lucky! Just didn't get round to filling them yet as was definitely in sleeping beauty mode!
And remember the wood and paper briquettes?
Well, I broke one when I was moving them about, and it seemed very dry. So experimental firelighter it was...

Oh yes, there she blows!! They work!! No more firelighters and in any spare time I can knock some together :) Excellent!
Did I actually use the term spare time? I think I may have slept too long and be in an alternative universe!!
Either that or...as ITS MY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW...:D I may have gor older when I fell asleep!! 47 on monday :D woop woop!

Well, today started off with fertilizing. I dislike chemical fertilizers and prefer green manures, but we needed a little so...

Spready spready :)
Then it was time to get the planter out of its ancient shed..which an apple tree had grown over..oops blossom!

A gift for my fellow planter...this is the fabulous 1950/60's machine!

Isn't it a beauty!! And simple too. The potatoes get dumped in the green bin at the top, then me and fellow planter take them one at a time and plop them in the little cups...

These go round and drop the potatoes into the ground, which then get covered by the dics :) Simple!! But look at the seats..

MMMM comfy!! bare metal! So we have our special seat covers...

Oh the joy of old hessian sacks...so many uses (including in the past rag rug making).
So are we ready????

Tis me and DS:D He borrowed my spare overalls and everyone thought we looked like hillbillies!!
So off we went and planted and planted. It was windy today, the potatoes were dusty and strawy. And we both ended up with grit where grit shouldnt get!!

This is a VERY grubby, gritty DS:) I think the potato planting may have sent him slightly insane:D
It gives us hours of quality time together and we do it every year. You'd be amazed at what we talk about but don't ask what a soggy biscuit is...i wish I hadn't asked :-S
Well..all day..nearly...and so far there are...44 rows!! I gotta pick all them when they are grown up!!
And earnt - zero, spent - £1. OH bought the top up shopping!! And as he was worried my cress looked a bit sad he bought me TWO punnets so I could have birthday egg and cress sandwiches on monday!!

Jolly Good Friday

Bank holidays. Personally I love them. Even though I know theres work to do, I just don't do it! I made chocolate fudge brownies though...

And yes, I had the first piece!! Yum yum yum :D Well, I didn't get an easter egg! Easter brownie??

DS asked last night 'Is the canned apple ok?'...Yes sweetie...

DS and the pink wafers, and a jar of applesauce...

Hmmmmm. He ated all the jar! Wow, that has to be 3 fruit portions in one go!! Theres a good lad!!

And his request for tea??? tortillas with cheese and salad...and chilli sauce of course!! This week he has been truely brilliant :) It must be because he's 18!!
So, earnt - zero, spent - zero! Mainly because I've not been anywhere!! In fact gotta work tomorrow, may get to aldi at some point..we are nearly out of bread! But I could always made some rolls:)
I'm actually in a bad mood. Yes, this is me angry. I make cake! And watch zombie movies...and then go have a rant somewhere online!! And yes, its men. And yes, its money. And no, I still am incapable of bringing up the subject of money with OH without (a) breaking into tears or (b) wanting to hit him with the nearest sharp object!! So..cake and zombies!
Potato planting tomorrow now. It was supposed to be today but hey ho men.

Fairy share of the pennies

Well, I don't have alot but I wanna help others too so Live Below the Line has some pennies from me...yes I know, sad to sponsor myself...but I think of the good the sally Army does for the old folks round here. And one of these days I'm gonna be an old folk!
I've decided, in my infinite wisdom, that the boys are doing it too! And I'm NOT going to tell them :D

We WILL be eating some of the things we've grown and allowing for seed costs. Last year, end of season I got alot of seeds for 29p a packet. growing food doesn't have to be expensive!

I've been playing with the mysupermarket shopping basket to see what I can afford...not alot...but they do like eggs anyway! nearer the time I'll post my shopping list :)

Anyway...DS chopped even more wood for me today...I nearly have 3 rows now! And we put a roof on the pile as it was spitting with rain!

OMG!!!! Hey its best before not use by!! And what the eye ignores the heart won't grieve over!
And from the freezer some meaty bolognaise sauce..

Nom nom. Pint of white sauce...topped with 'parmesan'!

Thats us lot fed from the freezer and shelves...i fancied garlic bread but no one else did so I was overruled!!! No one likes garlic kisses!!
Had to restart Herman today, someone had forgot to stir and feed him...ooops...

Poor little thing!

Ah bubbles, thats better!  there may be fresh rolls to go with the cress...
